English Walnut Povitica

The secret recipe for English walnut povitica was Grandma’s first gift to us, and the original remains our bestseller to this day. We crush farm-fresh English walnuts and fold in sweet creamery butter, honey and real sugar. Then we roll it by hand in just enough of our delicate pastry dough to bring the filling together into buttery, flaky goodness, just as we’ve done for three generations.>

    Walnut Povitica

My family is Polish and we have made povitica for many years using a family recipe handed down from generation to generation. I stumbled upon this site and chose to try the walnut povitica…just to try it. I will have to say that my Mema was amazed with how close it came to our own Polish recipe. And my generation doesn’t have to go through the tedious procedure that my ancestors did to get a quality bread.

My nationality is Romanian. My grandmother was the one who made this, sadly never showing any in the family how to make this. I guess we should have. You are the only company that I know makes this closest to my grandmothers….thank you

My grandmother use to make this on the kitchen table on a sheet so that she could roll it up. I have made it a few times but can not get the dough as thin as you do or she did but yours is just as good as hers.

I grew up on Strawberry Hill, North 4th street, and this povitica is just as good as i remember Gradma's that I loved then.

This reminds me of the sweet walnut loaf my Hungarian aunt made in the 1960 Era. Soft and full of nuts.

Absolutely delicious completely unique desert/coffee cake. Great for a snack, too. Beware! Once you start eating it, you will get random cravings throughout the day/week until the entire loaf is GONE in a matter of HOURS! So, always buy the big loaf, even if it's only for you!
