FOR WEALTH AND PROSPERITY
The Old World heritage of this povitica dates as far back as our original English walnut, for the popular poppy seed is a symbol of prosperity in Eastern Europe. We crush the poppy seeds and fold them into layers of sweet citrus, local honey and a touch of sugar. Then we envelop this filling in our handmade dough to create a traditional pastry that has been enjoyed for generations.
THE DETAILS
Each hand-rolled povitica has a net weight of 2.5 pounds and is certified kosher. Shipped in our signature Strawberry Hill gift box, povitica should be refrigerated upon arrival or can be stored in the freezer for up to three months.

Yummy
I am giving this as gifts this year. I love it, poppy seed is by far my favorite. Nothing against the others, which are yummy too. Back in the 60's in Chicago my grandmother would buy a poppyseed coffee cake that I grew to love. That bakery sadly closed down years ago. I found this and I have to admit it is much better then the coffee cake my grandmother bought. You will not go wrong by ordering this one.

Poppyseed Povitica
It reminds me of the poppyseed pastries of my youth that my parents would buy from a neighborhood European ethnic bakery on Chicago's south side. It has thick flavorful poppyseed filling. It arrived perfectly fresh.

I assume that the hard crust serves as a wrapper. I remove it when I cut a slice.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it is slightly different than my mom's Slovak poppy seed roll but it's damn close.

Poppy Seed Povitica
The povitica reminded me of those made by my mom. I slowly savored the taste of each bite.

Poppy Seed Povitica
Yummy! Just like Mom used to make. Maybe a bit better because it's bigger, but don't tell her!
