FOR WEALTH AND PROSPERITY
The Old World heritage of this povitica dates as far back as our original English walnut, for the popular poppy seed is a symbol of prosperity in Eastern Europe. We crush the poppy seeds and fold them into layers of sweet citrus, local honey and a touch of sugar. Then we envelop this filling in our handmade dough to create a traditional pastry that has been enjoyed for generations.
THE DETAILS
Each hand-rolled povitica has a net weight of 2.5 pounds and is certified kosher. Shipped in our signature Strawberry Hill gift box, povitica should be refrigerated upon arrival or can be stored in the freezer for up to three months.

Poppy Seed Povitica
For many years my wife always made poppy seed breads for the Christmas Holidays because we love them, and my mother made them when I was growing up. With the recipe she makes, she always ended up with approximately 15 loaves of poppy sees breads. Lately, it’s been getting harder to find ground poppy seed. There was an old polish market about 5 miles away that always carried it along with there homemade kielbasa, but they closed a few years ago. Now we get our ground poppyseed from a market in California. That being said, I will not hesitate to order your poppyseed Povitica again when we finish all that my wife bakes. I just hope yours will be available any time I get that craving for poppyseed again. I can’t say yours is better than my wife’s recipe which was passed down to her from my polish mother, but it is definitely a close second.
