The secret recipe for English walnut povitica was Grandma’s first gift to us, and the original remains our bestseller to this day. We crush farm-fresh English walnuts and fold in sweet creamery butter, honey and real sugar. Then we roll it by hand in just enough of our delicate pastry dough to bring the filling together into buttery, flaky goodness, just as we’ve done for three generations.

I had never heard of povitica until my boss brought some to a lab meeting a couple of years ago. One bite and I was immediately hooked! My last order just a few days ago was one loaf of the English walnut and one loaf of the lemon-blueberry. Both were delicious, and it is hard to pick a favorite. The English walnut is even better when heated for a few minutes in the oven and subsequently smeared with a bit of butter.

Really good walnut povitica, maybe not as good as mom’s, but I enjoy it and have no problems giving it as a gift to friends who really enjoy it.

My Family is from Slovenia and my great Aunt wold make this for us for Christmas. She has since passed and it had been a long time since I’ve had this. It tastes exactly the same as my great Aunt’s so you could imagine how excited I am that I can once again enjoy this delicious treat warmed up with butter and dipped in my hot cocoa. Walnut is the best and the original but the other flavors are good too. These take a lot of time to make so although the cost is a little high, I believe it’s worth it a few times a year.
