English Walnut Povitica

If I close my eyes, I can make myself believe the povitica was baked by my grandma. It is that good! Makes me nostalgic; I am so glad I found Strawberry Hill!

I craved this for years after my grandma and her sister passed away. I tried to find the recipe to no avail. I ran across this in a warehouse store during a sample day. I nearly cried. This is so good and really is so much better than my grandma's. So moist and so full of delicious sweet walnuts. I get one for every holiday now and I'm so happy to share this with my own family. Never disappoints and always arrives on time, fresh, and high quality packaging and worth every penny.

As a girl I watched my mother & aunt make this treat for all of the major holidays. It was an event! Rolled & hand-stretched sweet yeast dough with a filling of hand-ground walnuts, hot milk, honey, butter, etc. In my Slovenian heritage it was called potica. Those days are gone, but I still enjoy the homemade taste of potica because Strawberry Hill's povitica is the ONLY potica I've ever had that tastes just as good as my mom & aunt's. It is moist and does not skimp on fresh walnuts. Try it toasted with a little jam or butter, too. The best potica I've ever had without all of the time & effort to make it!
